Updated on January 6, 2016

The greatest fairy tale never told.

Shrek series is an American animated comedy film inspired by the picture book written and illustrated by William Steig in 1990. The film features the voices of Mike Myers as Shrek, Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, Antonio Banderas as Puss in Boots and many more. It is the best ten films in ten "classic" American film genres and 8th best film in animated genre. The first installment was released in 2001, produced by DreamWorks Animation and Pacific Data Images, directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jensen. It was well received until the second and third installment released in 2004 and 2007. Just recently its final film installment titled "Shrek Forever After" was released on May 21, 2010 in 3D and distributed by Paramount Pictures.

A Note About the Movie Title

Before Shrek made it big on the big screen, there was William Steig's SHREK!, a book about an ordinary ogre who leaves his swampy childhood home to go out and see the world.

The One and Only Shrek!
The One and Only Shrek!
SHREK! can be found in this collection of six modern picture-book classics by Steig, along with stories concerning creatures ordinary and extraordinary—from Irene, a brave and loving little girl who must battle a howling blizzard, to Spinky, a boy who is so completely annoyed by his family that he no longer has any use for the human race.

Shrek 2001 - Plot

When a green ogre called Shrek discovers his swamp has been 'swamped' with all sorts of fairytale creatures by the scheming Lord Farquaad, Shrek sets out, with a very loud donkey by his side, to 'persuade' Farquaad to give his swamp back. Instead, a deal is made. Farquaad, who wants to become the King, sends Shrek to rescue Princess Fiona, who is waiting for her one true love. But once they head back with Fiona, it starts to become apparent that not only does Shrek like Fiona, but Fiona is keeping something secret.(read more IMDb)

Princess Fiona: The battle is won. You may remove your helmet, good Sir Knight.

Shrek: Uh, no.

Princess Fiona: Why not?

Shrek: I have helmet hair.

Princess Fiona: Please. I would'st look upon the face of my rescuer.

Shrek: Oh, no, you wouldn't... tst.

Princess Fiona: But... how will you kiss me?

Shrek: What? That wasn't in the job description.

The Donkey: Maybe it's a perk.

Princess Fiona: Like an ogre!

Shrek: Well, whether your parents like it or not, I am an ogre! [growls at the dog to shut it up]

Princess Fiona: I've made changes for you, Shrek. Think about that. [she leaves]

Donkey: Real smooth,

Shrek. "I'm an ogre! Arrr!"

Shrek Forever After (2010) Movie Trailer

“Brilliant animation, 3D magic and a subversive script filled with quirky humour transports us to Swamp Heaven for this perfect Shrek final chapter. It's a whirlwind of a film -Rotten Tomatoes”

Shrek: Fiona, I know everything about you, I know you sing so beautifully that birds explode. I know that when you sign your name, you put a heart over the i. I know that when you see a shooting star you cross your fingers on both hands, squinch up your nose, and you make a wish, I know that you don't like the covers wrapped around your feet, and I know that you sleep by candlelight because every time you close your eyes, you're afraid you're going to wake up back in that tower, But most importantly Fiona, I know that the reason that you turn human every day is because you've never been kissed, well, by me.
