History of Garlic As A Food
It's so fascinating to read how certain food and spices has a big impact on people's lives throughout the run of history. According to Garlic Facts, the history of garlic dates back to 4000 BC and is native to Central Asia. The word "garlic" comes from an Old English word "garleac", meaning "spear leek and it is part of the lily family.
This pungent bulbous herb has long been a staple food in the Mediterranean Region and used generously as a seasoning in Asia, Africa, and Europe.
Egyptians worshiped garlic and placed clay models of garlic bulbs in the tomb of Tutankhamen. And, of course, folklore holds that garlic repels vampires, protects against the Evil Eye, and warded off jealous nymphs said to terrorize pregnant women and engaged maidens. Garlic was so highly regarded that it was even used as currency. Last but not least, garlic is also known for its aphrodisiac properties, which have been extolled through the ages in literature, cooking recipes, and medical journals.
Garlic has not always enjoyed the popularity and widespread acceptance found today. It was socially frowned upon in the United States until the first quarter of the twentieth century. Up until that time, garlic was found almost exclusively in ethnic dishes in working-class neighborhoods. Quaint diner slang of the 1920's referred to garlic as Bronx vanilla, halitosis, and Italian perfume. But, by 1940, America had finally recognized its value and embraced garlic. Americans consume more than 250 million pounds of garlic annually.

1-2-3 Easy Garlic Recipes
1# Garlic Chicken Adobo
List of Ingredients:
4 lb of chicken breast.
12 garlic cloves, peeled and sliced in half.
cup of vinegar.
cup of soy sauce.
cup of water.
Coarse ground black pepper, to taste.
Instructions for cooking:
Brown the chicken in a large skillet; then drain off the fat.
Add the garlic, soy sauce, vinegar, water and pepper.
Cover and simmer for about 35-40 minutes, until very tender. Turn the chicken once during this time.
Serve as you wish.

2# Baked Garlic Crouton
List of Ingredients:
2 garlic cloves, minced.
cup of butter, melted.
3 slices of bread, cut into half-inch cubes.
Instructions in cooking:
Preheat oven to 300F.
In a large bowl, mix the garlic and the melted butter.
Add the cubes of bread; then stir gently to coat.
Place the bread on a baking sheet in one layer.
Bake, turning once, until golden on all sides (takes about 15 minutes).
Allow croutons to cool.
Serve.

3# My Favorite Garlic Bread
List of Ingredients:
1 baguette.
1 tablespoon of minced garlic.
1 tablespoon of mixed herbs.
1 tablespoon of oregano.
1 tablespoon of margarine.
Instructions for Garlic Bread:
Preheat your grill to medium.
Slice the baguette along its length into three inch logs. Slice through each to create two half-cylindrical bread bases. Cut a number of half inch deep slits lengthwise along the cut surfaces of the bases.
For each base, take half a teaspoon of margarine and place in a dish or soup bowl and add half a teaspoon of of minced garlic. Mix the two together using a fork to create garlic butter.
Spread the garlic butter over the bread bases, making certain that the cut surface is well covered, and that the garlic butter is pushed well in to the slits.
Place the baguette on a grill pan with the buttered side down and cook under a medium-hot grill until lightly toasted.
Flip the baguette over and sprinkle on the mixed herbs and oregano. Put back under the grill until the buttered side is lightly toasted.
Serve hot.
